Northumberland born Earl Grey became Prime Minister of England in 1830 at the same time as R.A Jackson & Son was being formed.

Grey's Monument in Newcastle was erected in 1838. Underneath lies buried a Victorian Glass time capsule containing the original plans for the monument plus some gold, silver coins and medals given by Lord Mayor of the time, John Fenwick.
The wooden Dolly picture above was taken in 1895, the original wooden dolly which stood on the fish quay in 1830 at the time of the foundation of
R.A Jackson & Son
was only a ships figurehead.

The full fish wife statue did not appear until late in the 19th century when the original had been destroyed.

Mariners removed chunks to carry with them to sea as good luck charms.
